Hi, I'm headed to carnival and I'm reading a lot about pick pocketing in the forums. As a single female, is Colombia the ideal place
Barranquilla safety travel? Well, to be honest, Colombia is not the ideal place to travel.
As a general advice, it is safer to avoid staying in an isolated place. This is Barranquilla safety solo traveling is always a bit more risky than in group.
Now, that said, we have to admit that there are very few places in the world where you can safely travel. I am living in one of the most touristic place in the world 70 million per yearstill you can get pickpocketed or robbed in Paris. Carnival is a huge party time, with a lot of music,
Barranquilla safety, alcohol, and all sorts of excesses.
Barranquilla carnival, for instance, attracts people from all over Colombia and even abroad, and of course also attracts thieves. But Colombia is also a great place to visit, for its nature, for its history, and Barranquilla safety its people, who tend to live their lives like if there would be no tomorrow.
Large fiestas in Colombia always attract pick pockets and scamsters from scross the country, many of them very skilled. Just take precautions, no jewlery, expensive watches, phones or camerasbasically dont take anything you cant afford to lose. With these large partieslots ofpeople, very little personal space, very easy forsomeone to bump into you and relieve you of your valuables.
Large parties everywhere in the world attract pick pockets even with large events in Europe same Barranquilla safety big cities also attact pick pockets and scamsters. As a single female you should be extra careful. I am sure you already know not to get wasted in bars etc.
I dont know if you speak Spanish as that helps a lot! Barranquilla btw is not a touristic city. During the carnaval you can go to a stand where you can sit with other colombian people. I am sure one colombian group Barranquilla safety family will 'adopt' you: The one thing you should worry as a 'gringa' is that you will be the prime target for the foam that they spray Barranquilla safety.
